We are moving servers....

Post by Ian-S »

We are moving servers, hosting package and server location at the end of the month (this is a forced migration so we don't have a choice), this is the same hosting company as we've been with for years and will hopefully put an end to all the issues we've been having recently.

So if there are any issues around the 31st this will be why, if something does happen we'll keep in contact through Discord and the Facebook page, so if you have not already done so, signup through the link above.

In the meantime I've had one report of the main website being redirected to a website called affiliatecavern.com, I have not been able to replicate this myself so would assume that there is a DNS error somewhere and will create a ticket with the host and see if they know what is going on. If you're experiencing this too please let me know, also try http://php8.v8thunderonline.co.uk and see if that resolves the issue in the short term.

Thanks.

I can get to the forum today but not the main page - but your link above seems to work :)

Just as an update to this, the server move will be taking place on the 9th/10th April 2024.

This happens to be the very week where I am away, because of this there will be no race email sent out for the races that week.

Everything should move over without any issues, the website and forum is fully php8 compliant now, so if something goes wrong it's Godaddy's fault (not our first choice as host, but they bought out TSO last year and have been migrating everybody into their service ever since).

I will not be back until the 12th so if the server does go down I won't be able to fix it until then, Bruce will keep you updated on Martinsville race details via Discord, even if the website goes down, unless Bruce says different on Discord, assume the Trophy race will be going ahead as normal on the 11th.

I'm not sure if the SSL is being transferred over so I will disable this before the move. Godaddy is about as clear as mud on these things.

They still haven't completed this but I'm guessing the slowness and/or non-responsiveness of the server over the last few days is them doing it. I'm guessing there are a lot of websites to transfer over.

I'm taking daily backups just incase but I guess until I get an email to say the move has been completed, we just have to ride this out.

.....and now I've been locked out of both cpanel, email and FTP, luckily (for now) I'm still able to do backups but I cannot get into the mysql database.

We will be finding a new host, this is unacceptable.

Unfortunately this means I probably won't be able to update the next race info so it will be broken from Friday onwards (if they don't sort me out) and some other stuff might not get done.

I hate Godaddy, bet most of their clients wish they had never taken over TSO, TSO were great :(

Edit: Well it seems I can get in via the TSO control panel instead of directly so at least that works, I still hate GoDaddy though....

I've now had the email to say the migration will be completed within the next 7 days.

So if things go tits up, check discord for updates.

Just a reminder this move will take place tomorrow, Wednesday so if the forum/website go down for a bit don’t worry, and race will be on regular time (just in case I don’t get to send the emails out tomorrow morning).

Looks like it’s finally been completed. Hopefully nothing has been lost or broken in the move.

Evidentially, among other things broken by TSO/Godaddy in this forced mandatory migration, they've also broke the mail lists and so far, five days later, have still not responded with a response to the numerous other stuff they broke, so there will be no race emails until I can either fix it or find an alternative system.

Shouldn't take too long but I'm afraid it most certainly will not be this week.

And it looks like all the cron job scripts for updating the front page are broken too, oh joy.

It looks like our ssl has expired and nobody at the host has renewed it, I’ve put in a ticket but god knows how long it’ll be before I get a reply.

I disabled SSL on the server but it might take some time to propagate across, and if your bookmark is an https it will continue to use https until you manually change it, even if you do, some systems (Apple) will still try to use https despite being told not to and you will have to push through and click ignore warning, it’ll then load a page up, realise ssl is disabled and switch to using http.

I’ll probably tell them to add an all to it when they eventually get back to me, but don’t expect anything to be fixed this week unless it’s before Tuesday.

You may also need to clear your cache if you keep clicking on http links and your browser jumps to https without asking.
